How to repair your daily Car Scratch
1 This scratch is fairly deep. The metal is exposed and it has started to rust.
2 A jelly rust remover is applied to kill the rust in the scratch.
3 When the rust remover has dried, all traces of it are removed with clean water.
4 A mix of filler paste and hardener is then 40 made up. Remember to mix it thoroughly.
5 Filler is wiped up and down at right angles to the scratch. This traps the filler in the scratch.
6 Keep on wiping until you end up with a thin even coating on the surround metal.
7 When the filler has hardened, rub down gently using an extra fine grade of emery 42 (About 400 grade.)
8 When the area is completely rubbed down, clean with water and allow to dry. Signs of bruising are now showing on the rubbed down area.
9 Lay the masking tape in place so that it covers an area greater than that rubbed down. At the same time the paint impact smear above the scratch was removed with rubbing compound.
10 The area is now completely masked off with newspaper. The masked area should extend at least a foot beyond the edges of the area to be sprayed.
11 Spray in light even coats from a distance of about 12in. Remember to apply in light coats to avoid paint runs. Give at least two coats of primer and colour.
