Hydrometer, battery An instrument used to measure the specific gravity of electrolyte to determine the battery’s charge state.
Hydrometer, coolant An instrument used to measure the ratio of antifreeze and water in the radiator.

Receiver/drier The device in an air conditioning system that stores and removes moisture from the refrigerant.
Rotor The revolving part inside the distributor that conducts electricity to the individual spark plug wires.
Thermostat The temperature-sensitive device that opens or closes to regulate the coolant temperature in the cooling system.
Transmission The system of gears that transfers power from the engine to the drive wheels.
Water pump The device that circulates coolant between the radiator and the engine.
Wire feeler gauge A set of round wires of precise diameters used to check the distance, or gap, between electrical contacts.
